Obituary

Charles (Chick) Coley of Traverse City, MI passed away April 13, 2020. He was born May 18, 1927 in Titusville, PA, son to Glenn and Florence Coley and lived in Birmingham, MI until joining the Army Air Force in 1944. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he attended Western Michigan College and Miami University in Ohio graduating with a degree in industrial relations. He met his wife, Janet "Jan" Miller while a student at Miami. They were married 69 years. He worked for Uniroyal Tire Company in Detroit and Los Angeles until the Detroit plant closed in 1981., The couple had 3 children; Susan Coley (Don) LeDuc of Lansing, MI, Michael (Terri) of Houston, TX and Sarah (Rob) Hilburn of LaCrescenta, CA. The family had a cottage on Mickey Lake in Traverse City for 25 years and moved to Green Lake in Interlochen, MI in 2001. He is survived by his wife and 3 children and 4 grandchildren, Genevieve, Grant, Mikala and Nicola.
Chick had a great love of the out-of-doors and the family spent many weekends at their cottage on Mickey Lake and camping in California and upper Michigan. He loved boating, water skiing, golf and downhill skiing into his 80's. He was an active volunteer after he retired at Interlochen Academy for the Arts, Dennos Museum, the Traverse City Historical Society and delivered Meals on Wheels twice a week for several years. Both he and his wife liked to travel and took several over-seas trips and many Elderhostel trips.
Chick's family were members of the Birmingham, MI Presbyterian Church for over 60 years and he was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher there. He was a member of the Traverse City Presbyterian Church and his ashes will be interred there July 19, 2021 at a private family service.
