Charles Milton Dotterrer

Charles Milton Dotterrer, 94, of Traverse City, passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at Munson Hospice House.

Chuck was born on Monday, April 24, 1922 in Detroit. Following graduation from Redford High School, Chuck attended the University of Michigan, earning his Bachelors Degree in Engineering. While in college at Michigan, Chuck was President of the Michigan Student Union, was selected to join the honorary fraternity, "Michigauma" and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He further earned a Midshipman's Certificate from Columbia University and a Marine Engineering Certificate from GMI.

A veteran of WW II, Chuck served as an officer in the United States Navy in the Pacific.

On Thursday, February 12, 1949, Chuck married the love of his life, Barbara Jane Ednie in Detroit. They were married for 67 years, had 4 sons, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

Chuck was employed for 37 years with Ford Motor Company. He was highly respected there and retired as Director of Plant Engineering for the Ford Motor Company World Wide.

Very active in the communities in which he lived over his lifetime, Chuck served as a village councilman in Beverly Hills, MI, was a founder and member of the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church and the Beverly Hills Athletic Club; a Trustee of Franklin Village, Suttons Bay Rotary Club, the Traverse City Economic Club, served as Suttons Bay Village Treasurer and served on the Compensation Committee for the City of Traverse City. Chuck was also active in and served on the U of M Engineering Alumni Board. He was involved in the creation of the North Campus Engineering College at U of M and wielded a shovel for the ground breaking ceremony. He was a very involved member of Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara, son John of Palm Beach, FL, William of Denver, Robert of Traverse City and James (Jill) of Waterford. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Bruce of Boulder, Duncan of Denver, Devon of Traverse City; and Grand Rapids, Kyle of Traverse City and Dartmouth and a great grandson, Julian Charles Dotterrer of Denver.

Visitation for Chuck will take place from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City The service for Chuck will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St., Traverse City with Pastor Dale Ostema officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with full military rites.
