TRAVERSE CITY — Charles Orval Inman, age 80, died Sept. 20, 2011, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.The Inman family would like to extend its gratitude to the Grand Traverse Pavilions staff for the excellent care of Charles O. Inman over the past 14 years.Charles was born in Detroit on May 8, 1931, the son of Ora and Gertrude (Ritchey) Inman. Charles moved to Traverse City in 1998 to be near his son, coming from Trenton. He worked for Chrysler Corp. for more than 30 years in Trenton.During his stay at the Grand Traverse Pavilions, Charles enjoyed the outdoor summer concert series, summer barbecues, reading, watching TV and was a Detroit Tigers fan. He also enjoyed attending the Traverse City Beach Bums games with his son Larry C. Inman. Charles was honored by the Traverse City Beach Bums and was assisted on to the game field to throw out the first pitch during Pavilions Day at Wuerfel Park.He served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1955 and was assigned to the USS Mispillion during the Korean War. While in the U.S. Navy he received the China Service Good Conduct Citation, the United Nations Korean Citation and the National Defense Citation.He was a lifetime member of Am Vets Post 114 in Elk Rapids and the VFW Post 2780 in Traverse City and also a member of the American Legion Post 219 in Fife Lake.Charles is survived by one son, Larry C. Inman, who resides at 8971 Crockett Road, Williamsburg; a grandson, the Rev. Steve D. Inman, married to Hannah Inman, of Brayton, Iowa; granddaughters Amada Jo Inman (Tim O'Laughlin), of Rockmart, Ga., Tammy Brubaker and grandson Chris Brubaker, both of Ironton, Ohio; great-grandchildren Micah Inman and Savannah Inman, of Brayton, Iowa, and Hailey Inman, Evan O'Laughlin, Slylar O'Laughlin and Maverick O'Laughlin, of Rockmart, Ga.Preceding him in death were his parents, his daughter, Deborah Inman Brubaker, of Ironton, Ohio, and son Michael D. Inman, of Dallas, Ga.; and four brothers, Gerald, Ted, Fred and Ora Jr, and a sister Dorothy Inman. Also, preceding him in death was his former wife Dorothy Luella Lale Inman, of North Ft. Myers, Fla., and the mother of his three children, Larry C. Inman, Deborah Inman Brubaker and Michael D. Inman.Graveside services will be held at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, with the Rev. Edwin Thome officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Am Vet Post 114 of Elk Rapids and the Traverse City VFW Post 2780.Memorial donations may be made to the Grand Traverse Pavilions or the Am Vets Post 114 in Elk Rapids.
