Charlotte Lucille Fochtman, of Traverse City and formerly of Petoskey, MI passed away on her 99thbirthday, Saturday June 17, 2023. Her family celebrated her beautiful long life with her and after her party she passed away peacefully.
Charlotte was born on June 17, 1924 in Petoskey, MI to the late Frank and Laura (Muir) Hess. She was a child of the Great Depression and almost died at the age of 3 of pneumonia. The renowned and revered Dr. Burns of Petoskey was her doctor and saved her life. She attended Petoskey Elementary and High School in the Class of 1942. She married her high school Sweetheart Vincent A. Fochtman on October 14th 1946. They were proudly married for 70 wonderful years prior to his death in 2017.
In her younger years Charlotte proudly contributed her time to the war effort in WWII as a "Rosie the Riveter."
Charlotte and Vincent moved to Traverse City in 1950 and raised five wonderful and successful sons. Vincent Sr., Donald, John, Fritz and Dan.
Through her life she met Presidents, Governor's, Senators, Movie Stars and Sports Legends and yet never bragged to anyone and would only speak about those encounters if asked.
In her spare time she enjoyed volunteering at Munson Medical Center, gardening, flowers and the outdoors. She and Vincent loved to travel and were lucky to visit many beautiful destinations around the world. Her greatest love and accomplishments are her family she leaves behind. Charlottes smile and tender heart will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Charlotte is survived by her sons, Vincent E. Sr. (Carolyn) Fochtman, Donald E. (Kay O'Malia) Fochtman, John (Theresa) Fochtman, Dan (Karin) Fochtman, five grandchildren Vincent Jr., Michele, Laura, Amanda, and Nick, 8 great grandchildren Isabella, Gwyenth, Kyle, Owen, Henry, Ethan, Isaac, and Willa along with many other loving family members and friends.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son Fritz.
Per her wishes cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest next to her husband in Petoskey at the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice or Veterans in Crisis.
