Obituary

Chauncey G. "Dick" Nunnelley, 90, of Traverse City, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Village of Bay Ridge surrounding by his loving family.
Chauncey was born March 5th, 1923 to the late James R. and Ruth Griffith Nunnelley in Lexington, Kentucky. He served our country in the Army AirCorps during WWII and on Sept 4th, 1943 he married Jean Alice Blackwell of Huntington Woods Michigan.

Dick served the City of Birmingham (Michigan) Fire Department for 32 years, 16 years as the Fire Chief. When he retired to Northern Michigan he accepted the position of Executive Officer of the Home Builders Association of the Grand Traverse Area for 8 years, then worked as a management consultant for Southgate Sales for another 10 years. During that time he ran the 1989 Off Shore Classic boat race and Blue Angels.

He and his wife, Jean, loved to travel every year in their motor home, sail, and they played cards at every meal….keeping score forever.

In addition to his wife Jean in 2005, he was preceded in death by his son James Charles in 2011 and his brother Robert, and sister Eva Mae Hamilton.

Chauncey is survived by his daughter Ruth Nunnelley of Traverse City, his son Stewart (Beth) Nunnelley of Cedar, his seven grandchildren Kelley (Jim) VanWagner, Rich (Kelly) Probst, Andrea (James) Johns, Carrie Nunnelley, Anderson Nunnelley, David (Robin) Nunnelley, and Laura (Benno) Guggenheimer; ten great grandchildren, Steven Hardy, Alex Hakes, Grant Nunnelley, Callie Johns, Trinity Johns, Rich Probst III, Taylor and Kate Probst, and Eva and Ari Guggenheimer.

Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00pm on Friday, April 19th at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI. The funeral service is at 11am Saturday, April 20th, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Tim Manzer of New Hope Community Church officiating. Burial will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
