Obituary

Christian "Chris" Joe Copeland, 77, of Elk Rapids, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, with his loving family by his side.

Chris was born on August 30, 1948, in Traverse City to the late Leo and Alice (Inman) Copeland. He grew up in Elk Rapids, graduating with the class of 1966, and never once considered calling anywhere else home. He truly loved the community and everyone in it.

In time, Chris met the love of his life, Laurie Ann Sanford. They were married on April 29, 1978, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Elk Rapids. From that day forward, they shared a life filled with deep love, laughter, and countless memories. Their marriage was the heart of their family- the foundation on which everything else was built.

Chris spent his career as a proud lineman, a trade he was passionate about. In 2001, he founded CC Power, an electrical contracting company that grew into a successful family business. Working side by side with his loved ones meant the world to him. Watching the company thrive was one of his greatest sources of pride.

Outside of work, Chris had a passion for the outdoors. For many years he traveled out west for elk hunting, a tradition he treasured. He loved ice fishing and boating on Elk Lake, lobster diving in the Florida Keys, and salmon fishing on the Great Lakes.

Chris was a loyal Michigan sports fan. He enjoyed playing in a softball league for many years and playing a game of cards. He was an involved and dedicated member of Elks Lodge #323 in Traverse City, serving twice as Exalted Ruler.

He enjoyed being the head chef at family gatherings, always sharing meals with the people he loved. His joy for good food and cooking led him to fulfill his dream of opening his own restaurant, Mr. C's, where his passion brought comfort and connection to all who visited.

But above all else, Chris's greatest joy was his family. He was an incredibly proud father who loved raising his seven children with Laurie. Becoming a grandpa only added to his happiness, he absolutely adored his grandchildren. He never missed a sporting event, school activity, or chance to cheer them on. He was their biggest fan. To his family, Chris was the best husband, the best dad, and the best grandpa they could have ever hoped for.

Chris is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Laurie; children Chad Copeland, Craig (Michelle) Copeland, Heather (Matthew) Titus, Bridgette (Chris) Sallee, Christy Copeland, Tiffany (Josh) Godden, Ashley (Steven) Smith, grandchildren, Cody, Zachary, Cheyanne (Parker), Aiden, Gracie, Dawson, Bennett, Henry, Madelyn, Colton, Carson, Olivia, Garett, Mason, Tristan, and Ava. He is also survived by his siblings, Gerri Vezina, James (Jill) Copeland, John (Marcia) Copeland and so many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who all loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
