Christine Lawicki, 84 of Cedar, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Munson Medical Center with her niece, Laura at her side.
Christine was born on May 6, 1929 in Detroit, MI to the late Michael and Veronica (Cyrowski) Kaminski. She married the late Alois (Al) Lawicki on May 21, 1952, and celebrated 50 wonderful years together. They had two sons, James and Kurt, that were both killed in a tragic sea plane accident on Lake Leelanau in 1977 at the very young ages of 22 and 10 years old.
Christine had worked in Detroit for the New York Central Rail Road, in passenger accounting. In 1967, she and Al bought Leelanau's Rustic Resort in Cedar, leaving their residence in Roseville, MI to spend their lives in the 'Land of Delight'. They worked alongside each other, proudly running the Resort until they turned it into an Association in 1981, at which time Christine retired and Al continued to manage it until his death in 2002. Christine always loved when their renters from the 70's, 80's and 90's would stop by to say hello and talk with her, which most often than not, brought a tear to her eye.
Christine enjoyed making trips 'up north' (as she put it), which meant an outing to the Casino, as well as savoring every bite at her favorite restaurants, Boone's Prime Time Pub and Red Lobster.
Christine was of the Roman Catholic faith and has been a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church for many years.
Surviving Christine are her sister Rita Jaroma, many nieces and nephews, her loving brother-in-law, William (Nancy) Lawicki, and close friends Steve (Jackie) Glazier and Chuck (Ginny) Haag.
Christine is now reunited with her family in Heaven - husband Al, her two boys, James and Kurt, along with her parents Michael and Veronica Kaminski, and siblings, Constance Kaminski, Ervin Kaminski, Helen Nowinski, Theresa Forbush, Robert Kaminski, Margaret Jaroma, Beatrice Pasinerb, Dorothy Bayma, and Eleanore Saban.
Visitation will be held for Christine on Friday, November 22, 2013 from 4-8pm with a Rosary held at 7pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 23, at 11am with a visitation held one hour prior at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Cedar. Father Donald Libby will officiate.
