Christopher "Chris" Lee Kneer, 58, of Traverse City, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 9, 2025.
Chris was born on January 6, 1967, in Oxnard, California, to the late Jerry and Wilma "Jean" (Maxwell) Kneer. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Ann Arbor before settling in Traverse City in 1972, where they have remained ever since.
A 1985 graduate of Traverse City Central High School, Chris went on to attend the University of Michigan. After some time in school, he returned home and dedicated more than 30 years to Thirlby Automotive.
From a young age, Chris was known for his intelligence and quick wit. He was the one everyone could count on—the dependable brother who looked after his siblings and continued to care deeply for his family throughout his life.
He was an avid griller, and Chris also loved to recreate his mother's homemade recipes. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cheering on his favorite teams—the Detroit Lions and the Red Wings (especially when they were good!). But nothing brought him greater joy than watching University of Michigan football.
Chris had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind, thoughtful heart. He was known for giving the best birthday and Christmas cards—always carefully chosen, often perfectly funny. Some of his favorite memories included family trips to Washington, D.C., and West Virginia, where he enjoyed visiting the zoo and sightseeing with his children.
Chris is survived by his children, Lauren (Frank) Moser, Danielle (Jeff Pini II) Kneer, Leanne Kneer, and Cody Kneer; and his brothers, Jerry Kneer Jr. and Jeffrey Kneer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
