Clara Millross

Clara Mae Millross, 90, of Traverse City, passed away September 25, 2022.

She was born July 27, 1932, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to parents Christine and Leonard Gaffin.

Clara grew up on a farm in Harrisburgh, South Dakota, with her brother Richard.

Clara married Leonard C. Millross on August 10, 1956, in Harrisburgh, South Dakota.

Clara earned her Master's degree in education from Arizona State University. She would go on to have a fulfilling and meaningful career in the field of education as a teacher and principal. She taught for the Coolidge school district for 35 years. When she moved to Traverse City she continued in education with Traverse City Public Schools for another 3 years. Following retirement with TCAPS, she remained in the Traverse City area.

Clara was a member of Advent Lutheran Church of Lake Ann for many years.

She was known for her love of cooking and baking. As a young girl, she earned a blue ribbon for her cherry pie at the South Dakota State Fair. She enjoyed reading and sitting on the beach in the sun. She loved spending time at her cabin in Pine, Arizona and trips to Mexico. She loved hosting family gatherings, spending time with her grandsons and great grandsons. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Clara leaves behind her daughters Carrie (Donald) Sattler and Julie (Kurt) Katt; grandchildren Benjamin, Jacob, David (Lexi), Samuel and great grandchildren, Lincoln, Everett and Winston and sister-in-law Clarine Gaffin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard Millross and brother Richard Gaffin.
