Cleo U. (Flansburg-Valleau) Cook, 89, of Traverse City passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.
Cleo was born on February 14, 1923 to the late Albert and Christal (Priest) Flansburg in Mayfield Township, Grand Traverse County. In early childhood the family moved to Grant Township and eventually Cleo spent the majority of her adult years in Elmwood Township, Leelanau County.
She attended Canada grade school and graduated from Buckley high school. In 1984, Cleo, retired from Traverse City State Hospital as an attendant nurse. She was an active member of First Congregational Church for many years, serving where possible and a member of the Emmaus Community. Cleo enjoyed her family and friends, reading, traveling and her church activities.
Cleo is survived by her two daughters, Linda (James) Keely and Janette (Stanley) Steed, daughter-in-law, Cherryl Valleau, her step-daughter, Anita Prahl, 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, 13 nieces and nephews and their families, her sisters-in-law, Marcia Flansburg and Elaine Tomlinson, as well as many other loving family members and friends.
Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Cook, her son, Eugene "Bob" Valleau, her parents, baby brother, Dale and brother, Orville Flansburg and sister, Laura (Flansburg) Crain.
Memorial services will take place at 1 P.M. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the First Congregational Church, with Rev. Dr. Gary Hogue officiating.
