Clyde A. Spangler

Clyde Arthur Spangler, 72, native and lifelong resident of Monroe Center passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born at home on December 29, 1940 to the late Arthur and Rosa (Bartz) Spangler at Monroe Center.

Clyde married the former Carol Aeschliman on October 21, 1967 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Traverse City.
Together they built their home and raised their children on the family farm where their grandchildren still play today.

He made his living handling outside sales for lumber companies beginning his long career with Wickes Lumber when they opened in Grawn and eventually moving to Brown Lumber in Traverse City. Clyde had a love for tractors, creating an expansive collection of Farmall tractors at various levels of restoration. He enjoyed the hunt for his next project to add to his collection. Clyde enjoyed time spent with his family, traveling and especially time spent with his grandchildren.

Clyde is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Carol Spangler of Monroe Center, his daughter, Brenda (Jens) Runyon of Florida, his son, Mark (Alison) Spangler of Grawn, three grandchildren, Samantha, Jacob and Mackenzie. He is also survived by his sister, Genevieve Gabier of Mesick, a brother Calvin (Willo) Spangler of Monroe Center, brothers in law, Eli Haywood of Traverse City and Sonny (Laurie) Aeschliman of Traverse City, his mother in law and father in law Keith and Pauline Aeschliman of Traverse City and many nieces, nephews and friends. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lucille Haywood and his brother in law Gregory Aeschliman.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 and the funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

Grave-side committal services will be held in Monroe Center Cemetery at a later date.
