Curt Larrabee

Curt Larrabee, 60, of Traverse City passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Munson Hospice House. Curt was born on February 6, 1956 in Long Island, NY to the late Richard and Jane (Hyde) Larrabee. He graduated from Kings Park High School of Long Island in 1974. After high school Curt moved out west to ski and he eventually settled in southern Idaho. He met the love of his life Janet Vial and they were married on April 15, 1977 in Clawson, MI. Their two children, Brian and Erin, were born in Idaho and the family moved to Traverse City in 1987. Curt had an amazing work ethic he was a self employed flooring installer. He loved the beach, sun and water. He knew all the best beaches to go and never passed a body of water without jumping in. He enjoyed skiing and traveling.

He had a very spontaneous, outgoing and adventurous spirit. Curt never met a stranger he didn't like. He was truly a person who lived his life as his authentic self.

He was a family man, spending time with his kids finding different ways to have fun, was his greatest joy. Curt loved his three grandchildren and was looking forward to watching them grow. He said, I have three reasons to keep fighting cancer even when it became hard.

Curt is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Janet, son, Brian (Jenny McKay) Larrabee, daughter, Erin (Andrew Brown) Larrabee and three grandchildren; Benjamin Larrabee, Nora Larrabee, Emmy Brown. Also surviving are three brothers and two sisters; Rick (Pam) Larrabee, Bruce (Ellen) Larrabee, Scott (Deb) Larrabee, Kim (Bob Maietta) Larrabee and Wendy (Zvi Ginsberg) Ginsberg-Larrabee as well as a step-mother Carmen Larrabee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Richard Larrabee and Jane LeMay, and a brother, Keith Larrabee, as well as in-laws; Norm and Neta Vial and a brother-in-law, Norm Vial, Jr.

A memorial service honoring Curt will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visiting one hour prior, on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.
