Cynthia Noonan Cherry Monroe, 87, of Interlochen, entered into eternal life and the presence of her Lord and Savior at her home on Monday, July 17, 2017, with family by her side. Cynthia was born the youngest of 11 children on January 27, 1930, at her family home in Kasson Township in Maple City to the late Charles Samuel and Lulu Fay (Ashmore) Noonan. Cynthia married Edward Cherry on May 30, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan. They raised eight children together, and then divorced in 1977. Cynthia then remarried Kay Lynn Monroe on December 9, 1979 in Traverse City. She was a wonderful woman and loving mother who always put others first, worked hard, never complained, loved and cared for her large family, and did it all with a smile and great sense of humor. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, playing games, singing, picnics, and spending time with all of her loved ones. Cynthia had mentioned that one of the highlights of her life was raising her children and watching them grow into the wonderful people they are today. Cynthia was a member of the Church of the Living God in Traverse City. She was a former member of St Rita's Catholic Church where she served as a certified CCD teacher and on the Advisory Board. She was a Girl Scout leader, served on Benzie County zoning board, served as voting poll volunteer, and numerous times as an elementary school classroom mother. She also worked at Maple Valley Nursing Home and later with mental health care.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her second husband Kay Monroe; siblings Franklin, Muriel Baetz, Doris Dechow, Charles Jr., Ethel Furst, Irma Seymour, Lucy Petelle, baby Garnet, Carl, and Glen; and daughter Melissa (Cherry) Scanlon.
Cynthia is survived by her children Deborah (Jim) McLeish of Interlochen, Dennis (Jean) Cherry of Ann Arbor, Steve (Barb) Cherry of Pennsylvania, Dawn (Gary) Helms of Virginia, Sharon Cherry of Interlochen, Linda (Rob) Henry of Manistee, and Irma (Rick) Kaminski of Manistee; 29 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held for Cynthia on Saturday, July 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Living God, 1415 Birmley Road, Traverse City, with a visitation held one hour prior. Pastor Ted Smith will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be directed in her name to Hospice of Michigan or the Church of the Living God.
