Dale Alden Miller, age 90, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 6, 2025.
Born on July 5, 1935, in Fowlerville, Michigan, to Charles and Dorothy (Chappel) Miller, Dale spent most of his childhood in Stockbridge, where he attended Stockbridge High School. He was a proud member of the school's football team that won the Class D State Championship in 1953, playing alongside his brother, Donald Miller.
In the fall of 1954, Dale married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Schubert. After working several local jobs in the dairy industry, he joined the U.S. Army in 1958. Following basic training, Dale served for 20 months in Stuttgart, Germany, as part of the 540th Engineer Group.
Upon completing his military service, Dale and Mary settled in Brighton, Michigan, where he began a long and rewarding career with the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) as a Field Service Representative. In 1974, Dale was transferred to Traverse City, where he became the North Area Fleet Maintenance Manager, overseeing operations in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. After 28 years with MMPA, he retired in 1990. Retirement didn't slow him down—he soon helped develop and manage the automotive service department at the newly built Sam's Club in Traverse City for 3 years.
Dale and Mary shared a lifetime of adventures—traveling together, boating on Grand Traverse Bay, and wintering in Sun City Center, Florida. Dale took great pride in maintaining the beautiful lawn at their home, where they lived for 52 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Mary; many nieces and nephews; and was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Donald.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, in honor of Dale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
