Damon Springer, 83, of Traverse City, passed away comfortably at his home December 6, 2020.
The eldest of three boys, Damon was born April 20, 1937 to the late Guy and Helen (McGinnis) Springer in Zanesville, OH.
Although he was born over the state line, Damon lived most of his formative years in Traverse City, graduating from Traverse City Central in 1955. After completing his primary education, Damon obtained a Master of Education from Michigan State University. He taught math for 30 years for Lansing Public Schools, as well as, a part time instructor of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning at Lansing Community College. For the past fifteen years, Traverse City has been Damon's primary residence.
He had a passion for tinkering with televisions and anything involving electronics. He was a proud member of both the National Council of Teachers of Math and the Refrigeration Services Engineers Society. Along with his passion to learn and teach, Damon maintained an enduring pursuit of laughter, camaraderie, travel and the occasional "bargain". In doing so he amassed an enormous collection of valued treasures, with the most valued being his time spent with family and friends. He was thrilled when he could make others smile. If you had a chance to know Damon and considered him a friend, you too were fortunate. Damon was propelled through life by a kind heart, a positive attitude and a keen and mischievous mind. And he managed all of that with a twinkle in his eye!
Damon is survived by his children; Elaine Benoit of Cedar Springs, MI, Shari (Alan) Lysne of Buffalo, MN and Victor Matelske of Lansing, MI. along with his grandsons Andre and Keith Benoit as well as his brother, Jerry Springer and nieces and nephews.
He is now joining his beloved bride Betty (Ruckinger) Springer whom passed in May 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill Springer.
