TRAVERSE CITY — Dan Roger Knapp, 82, of Traverse City, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.Dan was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Houghton Lake, to the late Raymond and Eva (Peterson) Knapp. He married Joanne (Lordy) Clark on Dec. 1, 1979, in Traverse City, at Long Lake Friends Church.Dan worked at Burwood's Plastics for 23 years as a Die Setter. He was a sports "nut" and he especially loved to follow the Detroit Tigers. Golfing, bowling, canoeing, boating and traveling were activities Dan enjoyed. Softball was also a love for Dan; he was a pitcher for 24 years for Burwood's. He hunted on a regular basis and was a hunting guide in his younger years.Dan is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughters, Gayle (Raymond) Schwan of Saginaw and Maciene (Frank) Schmidt of Saginaw; daughter-in-law, Marie Knapp of Saginaw; eight grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; two sisters, Orissa Foreman of Escanaba and Lois Dooley of Alpena; three stepdaughters, Rosemary (Rex) Bisel of Traverse City, Jenelle (Peter) Derusha of Lake Ann and Cindrah Niess of Grand Rapids; stepson, Harold (Kim) Clark; eight step grandchildren; two step great-grandsons; and many other loving family members and friends.Dan was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosella; son, Gregory Knapp; and brother, Lawton R. Knapp.Burial will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Long Lake Township at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Michigan Hospice or Grand Traverse Pavilions.The family is being served by The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
