Daniel Ray Brannan, 74, of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Munson Medical Center with his loving family at his side.
Dan was born on October 9, 1951, in Kalkaska, Michigan, to the late Robert and Shirley (Harmon) Brannon. A bright and gifted student, he graduated high school at the age of 16 and went on to study English at Central Michigan University. He later taught English for several years and was known for his remarkable ability to read up to 350 words per minute.
Following his time in education, Dan worked in several industries. He was in the medical industry, at Bear Archery, Walters and Hemming, and later at Living Hope Church, where he faithfully served as a janitor for over 20 devoted years. He took great pride in caring for the church, a place he loved dearly.
On January 15, 1982, Dan married Susann Marie Peplinski. He embraced his role as a devoted stepfather to her three children and was always present and engaged in their lives. He enjoyed taking the kids to the library and the beach, playing games, and spending time together as a family. When grandchildren came along, they became the center of his world, and he loved each of them deeply.
In his spare time, Dan enjoyed reading and taking naps. He was a true family man who cherished being surrounded by loved ones. Known for his gentle nature, Dan never spoke an unkind word. He had a kind heart, a helpful spirit, and was truly one of the nicest people you could meet.
In his younger years, Dan also enjoyed traveling, including trips to Alaska and even Antarctica.
Dan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His family finds comfort in imagining him at peace, healthy, smoking his pipe and smiling down from heaven.
He is survived by his wife, Suzann; stepchildren Amy (Danny) Lautner, Teri, Lynn (Joe Maslowski) Cunningham, and Benjamin (Allison) Popa; grandchildren Calvin, Casey, Justin, Josh, Michael, Alivia, Cody, Tristan, Gregory, Samuel, and Charlie; siblings Bethanie (Dennis) McLimans, Darrell (Suzy) Brannan, David (Carol) Brannan, Susan (Scott) Brannan, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Riley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt, Betty Harmon, whom he loved and cared for deeply; his nephews, Mark and Andrew; and his brother-in-law, Dennis.
Private family services will be held at a later time. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
You came to mind, so I stopped to pray.
I asked God to help you and make you a way.
To give you his peace and strengthening grace,
To give you endurance while running his race.
I asked him to lead when the path seems unclear,
To bring reassurance, he'll always be near,
To show you each promise he's made will come true….
Remember,
Your father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!
