Daniel Robert Koons, 66, of Lewiston, ME, formerly of Big Rapids, died Friday, March 9, 2018 at Marshwood Center in Lewiston, Maine.
Dan was born on Friday, April 27, 1951 to the late Jerry and Jeannette (Newton) Koons at Pennock Hospital in Hastings, MI. He graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1969 and then joined the U. S. Army in August of 1969, serving until Nov. 16, 1973. He had a varied work history in Tennessee and Maine.
Dan is survived by a son, a daughter, 3 grandchildren and step-mother, Betty Koons and Aunt Marilyn Koons, both of Traverse City. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister, Cecy and brother James and other family members.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 1 at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids. The Rev. Melissa Lopez will officiate. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 98 of Big Rapids as well as active duty personnel from the U. S. Army.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Goodwill Patriot Place, 1430 Patriot Drive, Gaylord, MI 49735 ( a transitional housing community for homeless veterans) or to a charity of one's own choosing.
