Obituary

Daniel Patrick McCarthy

Dann McCarthy, 45, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 1, 2012.

He was a loving, kind man who devoted much time and energy to the service of others. He brought light and warmth to many people with his sparkling smile and big hugs, and his ability to accept and love others just as they are.

Born and raised in Fairfield County, Connecticut, Dann moved to Traverse City in January 1996.

He was an Eagle Scout, a graduate of Ithaca College in New York, a certified Clinical Massage Therapist, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, a creative cook and baker, a skilled dancer, and a talented bodhran player with the Irish music group TC Celtic.

Dann was a tireless volunteer in the service of people experiencing homelessness, through organizations such as Safe Harbor of Grand Traverse, Jubilee House, and Goodwill Street Outreach. He also volunteered at Unity Church (where he was a member), Munson Hospice, Old Town Playhouse, and Grand Traverse Pavilions.

He is survived by his parents, Tom & Gerry McCarthy; brother Chris (Trish) McCarthy of Madison, Connecticut; sister Karen (John Noonan) McCarthy of Traverse City; brother Matt (NoraMaria Murphy) McCarthy of Dun Chaoin, Ireland; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his Cody and McCarthy grandparents, his Aunts Edie and Kathleen, and his Uncles Eddie and Christy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10 at 11am at Grace Episcopal Church, 341 Washington Street, Traverse City, MI, with a visitation at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dann's name to Goodwill Street Outreach, Safe Harbor, or Grace Episcopal's Jubilee House. The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
