Listen to Obituary

Daniel Christian Schropp, “Dan”, was born in Muskegon on 12/9/1957 and passed into eternal life on 10/13/2026 at age 68. He lived and worked and retired in Traverse City, Michigan.

Dan was a knowledgeable “fixer” of many things: cars, appliances, plumbing. And if he didn’t know something, he often had that enviable ability to figure it out. He worked in several different professions over the years but spent the majority of his working years as a maintenance supervisor in apartment complexes in Traverse City, where he not only was responsible for fixing many things and upkeep of the properties, but often had to deal with individuals with problems and special needs, which he was good at.

Dan was a smart, loving and good-hearted person with a great (and sometimes irreverent) sense of humor. Dan was the type of person who tried as best he could to be a protector of those he loved.

One of his hobbies was working in his yard, and his lawn was so beautiful that people remarked on it frequently. It was meticulous. He loved his Harley motorcycle while he had it, and all the hot cars he had in his youth. Dan enjoyed watching the Red Wings, especially when they were winning.

Dan had many serious health issues in later years, which he battled bravely with rarely a complaint. Don’t know how he did it. He endured a lot.

Dan is survived by his wife, Penny Schropp, children Brandon (Tasha) Schropp and Samantha Schropp, Mother Barbara McGruther, brothers Jim (Kay) Schropp and Dave (Cindy) Schropp, half-siblings Danny Wayne Schropp, Duke Schropp and sister Tammy Brott. He is also survived by his grandchildren Parker Schropp, Daisy Lutchko, and Weston Schropp, and special nephew Josh Schropp, as well as many other cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished good friends and his beloved dog Izzy who was his ‘baby’.

At this time, per Dan’s wishes, he has been cremated. He did not want a funeral, nor a viewing. His ashes will be kept by his wife until she is gone and then they will be buried together in a cemetery in the country just outside of Traverse City. Family and friends should feel free to share memories on this website OR to call Dan’s wife or children to talk if they would like to or to share memories. A celebration of life may be held for family and close friends at a later time and place.

Donations in memory of Dan can be made to The American Heart Association at 2149 Velp Ave, Ste 501, Howard, WI 54303 OR to our local humane society at Cherryland Humane Society, 1750 Ahlberg Rd, Traverse City, MI 49686.

He will be missed more than words can express and he is forever and ever in our hearts. We are so grateful to have had him for the time that we did. We will meet again.
