Darla Catherine Hogan

December 6, 1935 — March 27, 2017

Traverse City – Darla Catherine Hogan, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at home Monday afternoon with her cat Fiesta curled at her feet, surrounded by loving family.
Darla was born December 6, 1935 in Detroit, the daughter of James and Nona Horgan. Darla graduated from St Agnes High School in Detroit in 1953. She received her associate's degree from Marygrove college in 1955.
In 1956 she met and married Terence Patrick Hogan, the one true love of her life. They settled in Madison Heights, Michigan with 4 of their eventual 5 children. In 1965, they took a skiing trip to Traverse City, bought a house, and never looked back. Child number 5 was born in TC.
Darla was an accomplished seamstress which served her well as an associate at Stewart Zachs Fabrics for many years. All the Hogan kids were proud to wear her creations, as well as St Francis Cheerleaders and member of the Homecoming Court. Darla was active member at St Francis Parish.
Terry, Darla and the kids spent hours on the water; boating , skiing and swimming. Darla also loved to downhill and cross country ski. In her spare time she loved to read, sew, garden and solve final jeopardy. Darla was also an accomplished pianist and many a holiday found the entire family around the piano for sing along.
Sadly, in 2002, Darla lost her son Thomas John. Tom was raising 3 terrific kids, which Darla immediately took under her wing. We fondly told her she was "raising her second litter". We are so proud of JT, Katie and Molly, and the wonderful young people they have become.
We loved our Mom, our Grandma and will miss her dearly, but she is at peace in a better place, with Terry, Tim and Tom, and her loving mother Nona.
Darla is survived by her devoted and loving children Nancy Anne Throneburg and husband Charles of Oswego, IL, Martin Francis Hogan and wife Jeanne (Curtis) of Walker, MI and Jennifer Marie Linder and husband Christopher, of West Chester, OH
She is also survived by seven grandchildren who loved her dearly. James Terence (Joanne) Hogan, Madison Rose Throneburg, Kaitlin Maureen (Mikal) MacDonald, Tara Marie Vezina, Kaitlynn Marie Hogan, Nicholas Thomas Linder. And special recognition to her granddaughter and caregiver, Molly Margaret Hogan.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Terence Patrick Hogan, her loving sons, Thomas J. Hogan and Timothy J. Hogan, and her beautiful mother Nona Horgan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 31, 2017 at St. Francis Catholic Church with a visitation one hour prior. Fr. Kenneth Stachnik will be officiating.
