David Leo Dzwik, 77, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on September 27, 2025.
David was born on March 8, 1948, in Elmira, Michigan, to Stephn and Sophie Dzwik. He grew up in a close-knit family alongside his brothers and sisters — Donald, Patricia, Irene, Bernard, Ted, and Isadore — forming the foundation of a life rooted in faith, hard work, and devotion to family.
A proud Vietnam veteran, David served his country with courage and honor. After returning home, he pursued training in heating and air conditioning in Chicago and went on to build a successful career in the trade. For over 40 years, he worked diligently to provide for his family and community, embodying a strong work ethic and quiet resilience.
David was a man who could fix anything. Whether it was a broken appliance, a leaky pipe, or the family car, he was the one everyone relied on to keep things running. Over the years, he renovated the kitchen cabinets and floors, repaired numerous household projects, and ensured his family's home was always well-maintained. His practical skills, patience, and determination were just another way he showed his love for those around him.
David married the love of his life, Bernadette (Kucharek) Dzwik, and together they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. Their love was steadfast, their home always warm and welcoming. David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who led by example — through actions more than words.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephn and Sophie Dzwik, and his sister Patricia.
He is survived by his beloved wife Bernadette; his three sons, David (Kylee), Adam, and Andrew (Casey); and his cherished grandchildren Michael, Abigale, Jacob, Gabriel, Sophie, Owen, Emma, and Lukas. David's greatest joy was his family, and the love he shared with each of them will live on in their hearts forever.
David found solace in nature. Hunting, fishing, or simply spending time outside, the woods and waters of Michigan brought him such joy. His greatest pride was spent outside, tending to his yard and gardens; he spent countless hours mowing the lawn, tending to the trees & bushes, and carefully nurturing the rosebushes he proudly devoted to the Blessed Mother. His perfectly cared-for yard is a reflection of the attention he gave to everything he loved.
A devout Catholic, David was deeply faithful and lived his life with quiet generosity, humility, and strength. Those who knew him will remember him as stoic yet kind, strong yet gentle, and above all, deeply loyal to his family, faith, and country.
A viewing will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, MI, on Sunday, October 5, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Catholic Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City, Michigan. David's legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the values he embodied, and the countless lives he touched through his generosity and example.
