David R. Beattie, 77, of Traverse City passed away on October 21, 2016.
David was born on February 5, 1939 in Detroit to LeRoy and Elizabeth Beattie. He married Susan C. Davis on August 3, 1963 in Battle Creek. They were residents of Traverse City since 1971, previously residing in Troy and Rochester.
David was a school principal of two historic schools, Central Grade School in Traverse City and Poppleton School in Troy, both dating back to 1877. He also was principal of Wattles School in Troy and Cherry Knoll School in Traverse City.
Following his career in education he became a real estate agent with RE/MAX Bayshore Properties Ltd. in Traverse City.
A 1956 graduate of Detroit Denby High School. He also received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.
Besides his beloved wife, he leaves behind his cherished daughters Anne and her husband Daniel Sweeney of Troy and Karen Keller and partner Jennifer Hastings of Traverse City; five grandsons David Samba of Chicago, A.J. Samba of Traverse City and Cameron, Sean and Evan Sweeney of Troy; sisters Sharon Baumeister of Harrison Twp. and Patricia Custance and husband Thomas of Traverse City.
He was the grandson of David and Kate Brown and Russell and Effie Beattie, previously deceased all of Marine City.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
Graveside services will take place on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery in Marine City.
