Obituary

David Eugene Edge, 63, of Grawn passed away at home unexpectedly after a 15 year battle with kidney cancer and ESRD on November 27, 2023. His beloved wife Trish and their two sons were with him.

David was born on August 23,1960 in Staunton, Virginia to the late Rev. Fred Edge and B. Alice (Cochran) Edge.

After teaching himself to read at the age of 3, it shouldn't be surprising he skipped grades in high school and attended Virginia Wesleyan College, graduating in 1982 with a B.A. History major and minors in Political Science, Physical Science, English and Fine Arts as well as being named Distinguished Graduating Senior. (History)

His love of books eventually guided him to a job with a bookstore in Daytona Beach, Florida. It was there he met his future wife and their shared passion for reading led to 35 wonderful years together. His extraordinary wit and skill with puns made a home filled with laughter and groans. He liked to tell people he had enormous quantities of luck but he used it all up in meeting and marrying Trish.

After multiple miscarriages, participation in a clinical trial blessed him with two sons, David Jacob (1991) and Christopher Andrew (1993) who continued to be a source of joy and pride. David shared his passion for swords and fencing with them, took them fishing in local lakes & rivers, and took them on many trips to the woods to collect downed wood to fuel an oversized fireplace in the home where the family would gather.

David moved to his wife's hometown in 1992 and started working for Northwestern Bank & Trust where he advanced to running the collections department. In his spare time he studied collection law and bankruptcy law to be able to help as many of his clients as he could, and was rewarded with one of the lowest delinquency rates in the state. Continuing poor health due to several rounds of kidney cancer and end stage renal disease forced him to retire sooner than he would have wished. The support and love of his family and canine companions helped him to fight and beat the odds for many years,

He was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest brother Freddy and his wife Barbara Edge, brother-in-law Andy Jones and faithful companion Roxi, a rescued Belgian Malinois.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Maule), their sons, David and Cristopher, his brother Jim and his wife Joan Edge, sister Alice Jones, five nephews and a niece and many greats and great-greats. There are also a pair of rescued American Bull Mastiffs who are still watching out the window for him to come home.

Per his wishes, the family will honor his life privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local animal shelter.
