David G. Hummel, 87, of Traverse City, Michigan died on January 24, 2022. He was born January 11, 1935 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of George H. and Catherine Frances (O'Reardon) Hummel.
From the time he was a teenager, David was an avid collector of Broadway musical recordings. He was the author of "The Collector's Guide to American Musical Theatre" (Scarecrow Press, 1984). His collection of thousands of rare recordings is now a part of the Recorded Sound Division of the Library of Congress. He was also on the Library Advisory Board of the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut.
David is survived by two brothers, John L. Stark of Saginaw, MI and William E. Stark of Bluffton, SC; and his adopted family Tony and Kenneth Charles, of Traverse City, MI.
He was preceded in death his partner of 32 years, Wolfgang Jung, of Berlin, Germany; both parents; step-father Louis E. Stark of Saginaw, MI and a brother, James R. Hummel, also of Saginaw, MI.
Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one's choice.
Cremation has taken place. In accordance with David's wishes no services will be held. Arrangements were made by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
