David "Dave" Jay Sprinkle, 70, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 17, 2025, with his loving wife by his side.
Dave was born on July 3, 1954, in Abilene, Texas, to the late Olif and Nellie (Holland) Sprinkle Jr. He proudly served as a police officer for many years and found great purpose in his work, dedicating his life to helping others. He started his career as a sheriff's deputy for Washtenaw County, then moved on to become a sergeant for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks Authority. He also served part-time for the Chelsea, MI police department where he enjoyed showing off his police horse, MJ, at parades and other events.
Dave had a deep love for riding his Harley-Davidson and he and Dawn took many trips together on his Police Edition Harley. Once off the road, he found happiness among the many rescue cats he and Dawn took in. Later, he developed a strong bond with Isla, whom he picked out when she purred and nipped his fingers at the shelter. He was her favorite and you could always find her snuggled up to him every morning.
His passion in life was collecting police patches and he was involved with the patch community for decades.
On June 14, 1998, Dave married the love of his life, Dawn. Together they shared a deep and devoted bond. They enjoyed traveling, with the UK being a particular favorite, spending time with their family, caring for their beloved cats, and making a warm and loving home.
Dave was a good man—quiet, but compassionate, devoted, and generous. He deeply loved his wife and their cats. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him
Dave is survived by his beloved wife Dawn, his children Max David, Barbara, and Erica, step-daughter Diana Payne, grandchildren Makayla, James, David, Jaden, and Greyson, his beloved sister Pam, his father-in law Daniel R. Martinez and his brother-in-law Daniel A. Martinez, and many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Max Sprinkle and sister Sherry Sprinkle.
