Obituary

David Alan Mann, 84, of Traverse City, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018.

He was born on August 5, 1934 in Detroit to Elwood and Hilda (Hosbach) Mann. on March 2, 1957 at Hope Lutheran Church in Detroit, he married Carolyn Mae Busse who survives.

After graduation from the Detroit Business Institute, David was a cost accountant at General Motors and then served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. In 1968 David completed preparations for the Gospel ministry at Wittenberg University and Hamma School of Theology. As a pastor, her served Lutheran congregation in Dearborn, Norton Shores and Jackson.

David had a variety of interests and thoroughly enjoyed playing softball, golf and bowling. His gardens yielded volumes of vegetables which he shared with neighbors and friends. The family enjoyed his homemade jam, soup, and cookies. Being with people put a gleam in his eye, so he rarely refused a visit or a gathering at church or with family. Travel was a favorite pastime and he enjoyed visiting 48 states. Christmas was always a highlight of the year and decorating the tree was an event for him.

Retirement in 1999 included part time service in area Lutheran churches, leading Sunday worship services when needed or working with stewardship programs.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, David is survived by his daughters, Christine (Thomas) Mann-Munger, Julie (Thomas) Morin and four grandchildren: Maya Morin, Owen Munger, Zachary Morin and Liliana Munger. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Newell and Merwin.

The family is grateful to the staff at MediLodge of GTC who provided compassionate care for David during his last days.

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Saturday, September 29 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1050 Peninsula Drive, Traverse City with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Pastor Paul Busekist will officiate and interment will be in the Church Prayer Garden. Rather than flowers, the family would sincerely appreciate memorial contributions in David's memory be directed to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Sustaining Endowment Fund.
