Obituary

David Paul Roelofs, 61, of Lake Ann passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025 at his home
surrounded by his wife and girls after a 5 year hard fought battle with prostate cancer.
Dave was born on October 4, 1963 in Jenison, Michigan to the late Eugene Dale and Estelle Bernadine
(Fischer) Roelofs Sr. At the age of 7, his family moved to Lake Ann where they ran The Roelofs'
Resort in downtown LA for many years. He later graduated from Benzie County Central High School
and began working in the trades, following in the footsteps of his father.
On August 31, 1991, he married his love of a lifetime Wendy Lober. Together they raised their 3 beautiful girls and shared so many treasured memories.
Dave started his career with Kellogg Wholesale building supply where he worked for 17 years, first in windows and doors and then with Anderson Window Service. He went on to Paul Maurer General Contracting where he first ran their Home Services department and went on to become
a beloved project manager. Dave didn't just build houses; he built homes for families and relationships that lasted for years to come. He loved his Maurer family and what he did every day brought him great joy.
Dave's greatest joy came from spending time with his family, having his girls and the grandchildren all together was what he enjoyed most. He had a great love for being outdoors, hunting with his daughter Abbey and his nephews, brothers and buddies at deer camp. He spent his time wrenching in the garage on anything motorized, from his truck for two tracking, to his "Wednesday Nighter", a souped up tractor
he and his buddies would get together and play on, at a beloved friend's farm in the summer or snowmobiling on the "oldies" every week for years in the winter. His 1971 Chevelle was his pride and joy and for many years he loved spending the weekends at the track in Kaleva drag racing with his buddies, a special community. Wednesday night Golf League replaced the tractor shenanigans in recent years and the friendships made there he holds dear. One of his favorite times of year was March when he enjoyed making his Fogg Road Gold maple syrup that he would proudly share. One might describe Dave as a redneck with a little polish, thanks to his girls.
Dave will be remembered for his big heart, his love of family and anyone he met, his joy for life, and his faith. The glass was always half full for Dave and his positivity and joy for life were contagious. He always saw the best in every situation and in people. He was an incredible husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend to all.
He was a charter member of Advent Lutheran Church in Lake Ann and was the head of the building committee to build the church where it stands today.
Dave is survived by his wife of 34 years Wendy; their daughters Stefanie (Jeremy) Knapp, Allison (Julian)
Damer and Abbey Roelofs; grandchildren Harper and Hunter Knapp, Maxwell and Dominic
Damer; brothers Dale (Sandra) Roelofs, Bob (Sharon) Roelofs, Greg Roelofs, Kris (Lisa) Roelofs; Uncle Del (Phyllis) Roelofs, In-Laws Bob and Judy Lober, his Aussie Piper and secretly loved cat Marilyn, and many beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends "Uncle Dave" will live on in the hearts of many.
A celebration of Dave's life will take place at their family home, "up at the barn" that he built alongside his son in law Julian, on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 2-6pm there will be a short service, lead by Dave's best friend Justin and an afternoon of celebration, doing it up "Dave Style". All are welcome, please come as you are to celebrate this one-of-a-kind man.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Cowell Family Cancer Center, Hospice of
Michigan or Cedar Rod and Gun Club Youth Education Fund in Dave's honor.
