David Lesley Russell, 71, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

David was born in Traverse City to the late Henry J. and Mabel Beatrice (Herkner) Russell. He graduated from Traverse City Central High in 1970. Following high school, he continued learning at Northwestern Michigan College and Central Michigan University. Central is where he met and fell in love with his wife Colette "Coe" Anne McBride. They were united in marriage on June 28, 1975 in Harbor Springs, MI. Together they lovingly raised two wonderful sons, Andy and Al.

David devoted many years to the First Congregational Church as Media Director & Facilities Manager. He played a vital role in its media ministry and technological advancements over the years. In his spare time, he found joy in farming the family land on the Old Mission Peninsula, performing in the church choir & bell choir, woodworking, camping, gardening, photography, solving any mechanical or technical challenge, and spending time with his family.

David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered as a genuinely good human, who consistently went above and beyond for others.

Surviving David is his wife Colette, sons Andrew (Rebecca) Russell and James "Al" (Jessica) Russell, grandchildren Sarah and David James ​Russell, his mother-in-law Norine McBride of Harbor Springs, his sister-in-law Marie McBride, his niece Molly (Mike) Pacola and his nephew Bradley McBride, his great niece Maddie and great nephew Sawyer, and many other loving family members and friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara, his father-in-law James McBride, and his brother-in-law James McBride Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the First Congregational Church with visitation held from 10 until 11am. Pastor Chad Oyer will officiate.
