David Gerard Shay

David "Dave" Gerard Shay, 51 of Kingsley, passed away unexpectedly on December 26, 2013 at Munson Medical Center.


Dave was born on March 7, 1962 in Saginaw, MI to Donald J. and Mary Lou (Tway) Shay. He married Nancy Jo Lappo-Schneider on the bridge over the pond in the yard of their Kingsley Home on July 27, 1996.


Dave loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the Cherry Speedway and watching the races and Sunday football. Most of all he loved his family. He loved going on his daily walks with Nan and their dog Maggie May.


Dave was a wonderful husband, father, son, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.


Surviving Dave is his wife Nan, mother, Mary Lou, son Dylan (Laurissa) Shay, step-children, Don (Val) Schneider, David Schneider, Dean Schneider, grandchildren, Madison Shay, Shannon Schneider, Joseph (Katie) Schneider, great-grandchildren, Dakari, Riley, Stormie and Ava Schneider, siblings, James (Marie) Shay, Donald (Suellen) Shay, Ellen (James) Sager, Kevin (Kelly) Shay, Lisa (Philip) Loesel, Brian (Suzan) Shay, Patrick (Stephanie) Shay, Melissa (John) LeRoux, sibling-in-laws, Donald Lappo, Charlene Gleason, Pat (Larry) Jackson, Bobbie Whaley, Bud Willis, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Dave is preceded in death by his father Donald and sister-in-law Doty Willis.


A memorial service will be held at 11am for Dave on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 6th street, Traverse City, MI 49684 with a visitation held one hour prior.
