Obituary

Dr. David C. Warren, 77 of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Munson Hospice House. Dave was born on March 29, 1937 in Saginaw to the late Glenn and Isabelle (VanDyne) Warren. He was married to Kathleen Wood on July 7, 1956 in Midland. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2011. Dave was married to Carol Green on July 28, 2012 in Traverse City.

Dave grew up in Midland and was in the first class to go through the then new Midland High School. It was during this time that he met the first love of his life, Kathleen, working at the Midland Drive-in. Engaged as undergrads at MSU, the rest was, as they say, history.

Dave was a proud Spartan and graduated from Michigan State University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics. After attending MSU, Dave graduated from the University of Michigan Dental School.

He proudly served his country as Captain in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corp. during the Vietnam War. Dave was a co-founder of the Associated Family Dental Center of Midland where he practiced until his retirement in 2004.

A community leader, Dave was recognized by the Midland Jaycees with its "Young Man of the Year" award for his tireless efforts to promote and support the growth of this community.

A proud member of the MSU Coaches Club, tailgate parties in East Lansing with family and too many close family friends to mention here, were an important part of this man's life for may years. His love of great food led him to study cooking and baking as a hobby and his gourmet dishes never disappointed. His passion for watching sunsets across a lake led to weekend escapes to a variety of Northern Michigan lakefront homes and after his retirement he and Kathleen moved to Traverse City permanently.

After Kathleen's passing, something wonderful happened. Dave met Carol Green at a grief support group at the Central United Methodist Church and, as fate would have it, once again history was made. The two became inseparable, like teenagers in love, and enjoyed travel adventures together, winters in Florida and sipping an occasional Martini with Bleu Cheese Olives at the Top of the Park at sunset.

Dave enjoyed the outdoors and his best friend Raven, a beautiful black Labrador Retriever, was his constant companion for more than a decade.

He was a member of Central Untied Methodist Church. Dave was also a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Jaycees in Midland, Elks Lodge in Traverse City and the American Legion.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Carol; a daughter, Sherri (Trent) Tomlinson of Traverse City; a son, David (Cathleen) Warren of La Crescenta, CA, two grandsons; Bobby and Kevin Warren, a step-son; Brad Styers and a step-daughter; Michelle Bersine.

Friends are welcome to visit with Dave's family on Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, 49684.

A funeral service honoring Dave will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Central Untied Methodist Church, 222 Cass Street, Traverse City, with visiting one hour prior. Pastor Chris Lane will officiate. Burial will follow in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Military Honors conducted under the auspices of CherryLand V.F.W. Post #2780 and American Legion Post #35.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Central United Methodist Church or Munson Hospice House.
