Debra Ann
Buchler
May 28, 1955 – May 9, 2026
Debra Ann Buchler, 70, of Traverse City, reunited with her loved ones in the Kingdom of Heaven on May 9, 2026.
Debra was born on May 28th, 1955, in Alma, Michigan to Marion Fockler and Dorothy (Krapohl) Devereaux. She was raised with simple family values alongside her brothers, Jim and John, whom she loved dearly.
On April 1st, 1976 (April Fool’s Day!), she had her first date with David “Butch” Buchler. Together, they spent 50 years filled with love and laughter, always by each other’s side. Whether taking a long drive on a beautiful day or spending time with family, Deb and Dave set the example of what a truly lasting companionship looks like. They were married on June 17th, 1978. “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine.”
After marrying and wanting to start a family, they welcomed their firstborn son, Brian, who quickly became their pride and joy. A few years later, Brandon entered the world, later becoming known for his humor and heart, completing the family. To everyone’s surprise, and shortly after finishing construction on their home in Leelanau County, their daughter Bevin “Sissy” arrived, whom Debra lovingly referred to as her “dream come true.” She was a devoted mother who always involved herself in every possible activity she could.
Family was the heart of Debra’s life and will remain her greatest legacy. She and David were blessed with five wonderful grandgirls—her “princesses”—Madilynn Anne, Cheyenne Elizabeth, Lola Elizabeth, Norah Brielle, and Willow Marion. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren, and she used every possible opportunity to spoil them.
Debra had a gift for making every gathering and holiday feel special. She enjoyed entertaining and socializing and had many lifelong friends. She loved gardening, reading, and traveling. Her big laugh, never-ending loyalty to those she loved, caring spirit, and unapologetic, unique personality will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Debra is survived by her husband, David Buchler of Traverse City; her children, Brian (Jennifer) Buchler of Grand Blanc, Brandon (Christle) Buchler of Thompsonville, and Bevin Buchler of Traverse City. She is also survived by her mother, Dorothy Devereaux of Traverse City; her brother, John (Nicola) Fockler of Lusby, Maryland; her “sister” and neighbor of 40 years, Linda Grant; and many wonderful nephews, nieces, extended family members, and friends.
Debra was preceded in death by her father, Marion Fockler; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Cynthia Fockler; her mother-in-law, Monica Buchler; her nephew, Michael Wert; and her granddaughter, Cheyenne Fryer.
A celebration of Debra’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Equine Escape, a mission that was dear to Debra’s heart: 5880 Brigham Rd., Goodrich, MI 48438, or www.equineescape.org.
Debra was a follower of Jesus Christ throughout her life. May she have everlasting peace in His love.
