TRAVERSE CITY – Deidra Kay Clugston, 64, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Tues. Feb. 23, 2016. She was born on Feb. 16, 1952 in Detroit to the late Nicolas and Donna Juliana (Kurepa) White.
Deidra was a graduate of Southgate High School in 1970 and earned a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education/Speech Pathology and a Masters Degree in Speech & Language Pathology from Michigan State University.
Deidra married Gregory Jon Clugston in East Lansing on Aug. 22, 1976 and together raised their two girls, Erin and Chelsey. The couple lived in East Lansing, Cross Village, and Traverse City.
A talented and caring educator, Deidra was employed as a Speech and Language Pathologist with Virginia Beach Schools, Charlotte Public Schools, MSU Speech and Hearing Clinic and East Lansing Public Schools. She taught Kindergarten and 1st Grade in East Lansing.
She was an accomplished, self-taught fiber artist. Her love to learn, create and teach brightened the lives of many. Deidra will be remembered as an intelligent, nurturing, creative and beautiful person "inside and out." She adored her family, grandchildren and the MSU Spartans.
Deidra is survived by her husband Gregory; daughters, Erin Katherine (Laszlo) Moharita, and Chelsey Kay (Luis) Valera; grandchildren, Éva, Miku, Lúkas Moharita, and Mila Valera, for whom will forever remember her as their beloved Noni. "Long live the beauty that comes down and through and onto all of us."
Per Deidra's wishes, a family celebration of her life will be held in East Lansing.
