Traverse City - Delbert D. Roop, 78, of Traverse City passed away October 6, 2016 at his home.

Delbert was born on July 9, 1938 in Summit City to the late William "Bill" and Ruth (Aldridge) Roop.

On December 6, 1958 Delbert married Barbara Houghton in Kingsley.

Delbert worked for the Grand Traverse County Road Commission. He retired in 1998 after 37 years of faithful service.

In his spare time Delbert loved to hunt. His favorite place on earth was Deer Camp USA, a favorite hunting spot near Kingsley. In his early years he liked to camp. He also loved to watch the Tigers play baseball. Delbert was a true family man and will be greatly missed.

Delbert was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years in 2012.

Delbert is survived by his sons Jake (Linda) of Traverse City and Mike of South Dakota; grandchildren Melissa (Chris) Cordes of Albuquerque, NM, Bill (Shayla) Roop of Colombia, MO, Christopher (Lindsay) Roop of Kingsley, and Amanda Roop of Gainsborough, TN; and great grandsons Dylan, Blake and Dawson Roop of Colombia, MO., and Jacob and Charlie Cordes of Albuquerque, NM; and sister Lena Brown of Traverse City.

The funeral for Delbert will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 11 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Graveside services will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley at 1:30 pm.

Memorial contributions in memory of Delbert may be directed to the National Rifle Association or to Hospice of Michigan.
