Denise Annette Hy, age 74, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, after a long illness.
Denise was born on June 14, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, to Nicholas and Mary (Elhilow) Hy. Raised in the Catholic faith, she carried with her throughout her life a quiet strength and deep sense of compassion for others.
Denise spent much of her career in sales, where her warm personality and natural ability to connect with people served her well. Over the years, she also worked as a caregiver, offering kindness and attentive support to those in need. While living in Arizona, Denise shared her love of food as a chef, delighting others with her creativity in the kitchen. Cooking and baking were among her greatest joys, and she expressed her love for family and friends most often through the meals and treats she lovingly prepared.
A gifted and creative spirit, Denise was very artistic. She enjoyed painting and drawing and found beauty in expressing herself through art. She also embraced Irish dancing over the years, bringing energy and enthusiasm to everything she pursued.
Denise will be remembered for her creativity, her resilience, and the warmth she shared with those around her.
She is survived by her brother, Thomas (Kathleen) Hy; her cherished nephews; cousins; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Mary Hy, and her sister, Renee Chapman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor and remember Denise's life.
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
Memorial contributions in Denise's honor to either Heartland Hospice or the MediLodge of Traverse City would be greatly appreciated
