TRAVERSE CITY — Dennis R. "Denny" Mack, 60, of Traverse City, passed away into God's Kingdom on Tuesday morning, June 21, 2011, at his home, supported by his family's presence and gentle care. Born Nov. 12, 1950, in Traverse City, he was the son of the late Gerald Lewis and Leona May (Thompson) Mack. On Aug. 2, 1975, he married the former Janice Elaine Baase.Denny attended local schools and furthered his education by graduating from Ferris State College with an associate's degree in Ornamental Horticulture.He proudly served his country with the United States Navy and was honorably discharge after serving during the Vietnam War.For a number of years Denny owned and operated Mack Nursery, working as a Landscaper and Irrigation Specialist. He thoroughly enjoyed his work, creating beautiful gardens with God's creations.He was an avid outdoors man who partook in hunting, fishing and boating. A special time for the Mack family was participating in the annual Fourth of July Boat Parade on Rennie Lake. The Mack family members were longtime members of the Fellowship Church. Denny will be remembered for his love of family, compassion and strength that never wavered throughout his illness. Friendships were very important to Denny, especially helping his friend, Matt, harvest Christmas trees and making wreaths at the Dawghous in Kingsley.He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janice "Jann" E. Mack, of Traverse City; children, Martin (Amy) Mack, of Lake Ann, and Jessica (Benjamin) Dane, of Traverse City; grandchildren, Lily, Henry, Ciera, Molly and Emily; siblings, Dean (Diana) Mack, of Traverse City, and Karen (Robert) Straitiff, of The Villages, Fla.; along with many nieces and nephews. Friends are welcomed to visit with the family at the Fellowship Church today, June 23, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial services will be held at the Fellowship Church on Friday, June 24, 2011, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Jon Flikema officiating. Cremation has taken place. In remembrance of Denny, memorials may be directed to the Mack family, c/o Fellowship Church, 2555 Garfield Road, North, Traverse City, MI 49686.
