Henry Richard "Dick" Wise

TRAVERSE CITY — Dick Wise, 79, of Traverse City, passed away Aug. 1, 2015 at Munson Medical Center.
Dick was born on Oct. 8, 1935 in Detroit to the late Henry and Edna (Edenstrom) Wise.
On June 25, 1966, Dick married Carrol Anne Simmons.
Dick graduated from Detroit McKenzie High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Albion College and his master's degree from Michigan State University. He was a high school counselor for eight years. He then became the director of financial aid at University of Michigan-Flint for 28 years, retiring in 1996. In 2000, he and his wife, Carrol moved to the Traverse City area. He had been spending the summers here for most of his life and he loved being up north.
In his spare time, Dick enjoyed fishing, golfing and cheering on the Detroit Tigers. He also liked to volunteer at Munson Manor and for Safe Harbor through the Presbyterian Church. Faith and family were the most important things to Dick. He loved his grandchildren and they brought him much joy and happiness.
Dick is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carrol; sons, Kurt (Diana) and Craig (Kera); and grandchildren, Erin, Nicholas, William, Kate, Collin and Nora.
A service of celebration will be held on Friday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster Road, Traverse City. Rev. William Meyers will officiate.
Dick will be interred at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions in memory of Dick may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or to the Presbyterian Church.
