Obituary

Dominic "Nick" John Favara, 65, of Traverse City, Michigan passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021, surrounded by love. He was welcomed into heaven by his loving wife, Karen, to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. Dominic was born on October 24, 1955 in Saginaw to the late Peter and Maxine (Zaleski) Favara. He married, the love of his life, Karen Lynn Miller on May 29, 1976 in Hemlock, Michigan. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2003.

Nick had been employed with Discount Tire Service for over 38 years, working throughout Michigan. He was most recently the manager of the Traverse City location. Over the course of his career, Nick made many friends, and was a wonderful mentor to many of his fellow employees and colleagues. To quote Nick, "confidence breeds success and success breeds confidence."

In his spare time Nick enjoyed flying stunt kites, scuba diving, making wine, fast cars and traveling. He also liked hunting deer, boar and elk and was an avid Detroit Lions fan. He loved to volunteer his time, driving veterans from Traverse City to their appointments at the VA Hospital in Saginaw. Above all his family meant everything to Nick, he loved his girls and being a grandpa.

He is survived by his two daughters, Sarah Favara and Dana (Richard) Shoskey and his three granddaughters; Eliza, Hazel and Gracie. Also surviving are his siblings; Susan Meloche, Nancy (Larry) Brooks, Charles (Sharon) Favara and John (Diane) Favara, his father-in-law, Max Miller, brothers-in-law; Mark (Cheryl) Miller, Steve Miller and Jody (Betty) Miller as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Barbara Miller and a brother-in-law, Tony Meloche.

A Celebration of Dominic's life will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 26, 2021 in the garden, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684. Pastor Matt Heron will officiate. Public virtual webcasting will be at www.rjfh.tv .

In accordance with Dominic's wishes burial has taken place in Oakwood Cemetery of Traverse City.

Traverse Hwy STE 1155, Traverse City, Michigan, 49684 or to the DAV Transportation Chapter 38, P.O. Box 81, Lake Ann, Michigan, 49650 funds will be used to purchase a new transport vehicle.
