Donald Lawrence Hamilton's Obituary
Donald Lawrence Hamilton, a proud native of Traverse City, has passed away at the age of 69. His thoughtfulness, wit, love, and passion for adventure will be deeply missed.
Don was born on December 21, 1954 to the late Dale Lawrence and Verna Irene (Lewis) Hamilton.
Don loved his three children with all of his heart and was intentional in all his actions. Don never missed a sporting event, band concert, or special occasion and always beamed with pride when speaking of his children's accomplishments. He even saved every one of their cards, letters, and art projects.
He was also an enthusiastic sports fan. He loved all Detroit sports, especially the Lions and the Tigers. He was especially thrilled this past year when his beloved Michigan Wolverines won the National Championship in football. His children were so happy he got to see them win one last time.
Don loved Traverse City and everything that came with it, especially the ever changing weather conditions. He also looked forward to the National Cherry Festival every year, particularly enjoying the Blue Angels. Don and his children share hundreds of memories of adventures at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors as much as he loved teaching his children about them.
Don always cared deeply for others and truly had a servant's heart. In his later years, he was an incredible caregiver to his mother. Together they loved cheering on (or yelling at) the Tigers and going to the casino together. He excelled in this role and provided her with great care until she passed at the age of 90 in 2018.
Don was preceded in death by his parents.
Don is survived by his children Bryan (Lauren) Hamilton, Jennifer (Symons) Hamilton, Chris Hamilton and his brother, Michael Hamilton.
Don's family will celebrate and honor his life privately with the spreading of his ashes in his most joyful place - the wilderness of Northern Michigan.
