Donald "Don" Francis Harriger, 97, of Empire, passed away February 26, 2023.
Don was born in Muskegon on August 10, 1925, son to Austin M. and Mary Rose (Hoffman) Harriger.
Don has lived in the Empire area since he was three years old. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire. He was proud to have served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He loved music and was a talented accordion player, having played with the Rhythemeers for several years. His favorite pastimes also included fishing, hunting and refurbishing antique boats.
Don leaves behind his wife Joan; children Sallie (Joseph) Bishop, Joseph Harriger, Mary (Douglas) Gosling and Lisa (Norman) Harriger-Jones; grandchildren Joanna Hetzel, Jennifer Bishop, Sandra (Tom) Randall, Nicholas Gosling and Abigail (Sam) Wood; great-grandchildren Lucas, Seth, Micah, Zinnia, Thomas, Ella and Maisie; half-siblings Leah (Brad) McArthur, Loraine Zientek, William Olesen and Barbara (Earnest) Ziegler, as well as many other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Versel Harriger; half-siblings Carol Stanley and Jerry Olesen and step-parents Orvald Olesen and Ann Harriger.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, March 2, 11:00 AM, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Empire. Visitation will take place one hour before Mass.
