Donald Ridge Kellett, 90, of Traverse City passed away Friday, July 24, 2020 at Munson Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born on the kitchen table on March 23, 1930 in Royal Oak, MI to the late John and Elsie (Ridge) Kellett. Don grew up during the depression raising chickens and assisting his father delivering oil in 5 gallon pails to local farmers. He loved the automobile and during his teenage years he purchased, repaired and sold over 20 vehicles some of which were purchased with the engine in the rumble seat.
Honorably, Don served our Country in the United States Army. While attending Officer Candidate School he met his future wife, Ellamarie Foubister, at a service club in Jefferson City, Missouri. The couple married on Nov. 23, 1952 in Montgomery County, Maryland. At the time of Donald's tour of duty in Korea the couple moved to Clawson, Michigan. Following his time in the service he went to Lawrence Tech and started his own plumbing and heating business in the Metropolitan Detroit area which he owned for over 55 years.
Donald was a very dedicated husband and father and is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Pamela), David (Deborah), Bradley (Britney) and Kurt Kellett; 13 grandchildren; and 16 greatgrandchildren.
He was known for his integrity and his love for his country, family and others that were less fortunate. During his retirement years, he spent much of his time participating in Habitat for Humanity projects.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Ellamarie, parents, and sister Doreen Young.
Graveside services with Full Military Honors will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, July 28 2020 at Oakwood Cemetery. Dr. Gary Hogue will officiate. Memorial contributions may be directed to Habitat for Humanity. Don's family extends sincere appreciation for the services of Holli Care LLC during the last few years of Don's life.
