Obituary

Donald "Don" Louis Bryant, 79, of Higgins Lake and formerly of Flint, Michigan, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

Born on January 13, 1945, in Dearborn, Michigan, Don was the cherished son of the late Donald and June (Rummer) Bryant.

Don spent many years in the Flint area, with countless summers at the family cottage on Higgins Lake—a treasured property his parents acquired to bring generations of joy. In 2013, Don and his wife Wynn transformed that beloved cottage into their full-time home, embodying their love of the lake and its surrounding beauty.

Don had a remarkable 41-year career as a journeyman diemaker at General Motors, where his creativity, dedication, and innovative ideas left a lasting impact. His contributions were not just to his craft but to everyone who worked alongside him.

In the late 1980s, fate brought Don and the love of his life, Wynn Ann Draper, together at an Irish pub on St. Patrick's Day. Their connection was instant and enduring. They married on September 28, 1991, in Flint, Michigan, and together built a life filled with laughter, love, friendship and adventure.

Don was a master woodworker whose skill and precision were awe-inspiring. Whether building furniture, creating turned bowls, shelves, or designing intricate stained glass and metal sculptures, his craftsmanship reflected his boundless talent and care. His meticulously maintained workshop, filled with tools passed down from his grandfather, was a testament to his passion and dedication.

Don was also an avid outdoorsman who grew up hunting, fishing, and shooting skeet. Though arthritis eventually limited his ability to hunt, his love for the outdoors remained steadfast. He was immensely proud of his shotgun collection, with each piece showcasing his appreciation for craftsmanship.

A kind-hearted and brilliant man, Don was the ultimate gentleman and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was known for helping neighbors with everything from furniture repairs to small engine fixes, always eager to lend his expertise. Both sides of his brain worked in perfect harmony—he was a master problem-solver with equal measures of intellect and creativity.

Don was deeply proud of his children and grandchildren, treasuring every moment with them. He was also a devoted supporter of Wynn's Tae Kwon Do accomplishments, attending every match and tournament with enthusiasm. Most recently, he was working on a special project for the Tae Kwon Do school.

Don's legacy of love, kindness, and exceptional talent will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Wynn, his children, Tim Bryant, Renee (Dr. Brian) Drabik, Jennifer (James) Cline, Judy "Betsy" (Kenny) Howell, grandchildren, Alexus (Tommy) Brandenburg, Madi Drabik, Ben Drabik, Drew Drabik, Grace Drabik, Catie Rodriguez Cline (Jerry), Cameron Cline, Taylor (Linda) Howell, Victoria Howell, Justin Howell, Jordan Howell, great grandchildren, Willow Howell, Leighton Howell and Olivia Howell, sister, Judy Brug, sister-in-law Penny Bryant, beloved nieces and nephews, and many dear friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joe Bryant, and brother-in-law Larry Brug.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Don's life will be announced in the summer of 2025. Memorial contributions in his honor may be directed to a charity of one's choice. Kindly share thoughts and memories with his family at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com .
