Donald "Don" W. Mackey, 80, of Kingsley, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Don was born on November 10, 1944, in Chicago, IL to the late Floyd and Bertha (Mullenix) Mackey. He was the fourth of six children and was raised in Chambersburg, PA. Don proudly served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967 as a jet mechanic and was a decorated pitcher on their slow pitch softball team. After he was honorably discharged, he began his professional career as a sewing machine mechanic in Baltimore, MD. He was highly sought after and traveled extensively around the east coast.
Don married the love of his life, Erin (Copper) Mackey in Baltimore, MD on March 18, 1982. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and fishing, and in his younger years, sitting outside talking with friends on the porch, and watching the Chicago Bears during football season.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Burt and Robert Mackey and grandson, Tanner Mackey. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Erin, children, Shane Mackey, Chastity Mackey and Erica Mackey, grandchildren, Emily Bennetts, Cameron Stine and Tyler Haldeman, great-grandson, Brantley Haldeman, brother, Floyd (Donna) Mackey, sisters, Paulette Zeger and Jackie (Thomas) Watson and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved.
A Memorial Service honoring Don will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at LifePoint Bible Church, 1249 3 Mile Rd S., Traverse City, Michigan 49696
