Obituary

EMPIRE — Donald A. VanderNoot, 84, of Empire, peacefully passed at Munson Medical Center on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010. Donald was born on Feb. 22, 1926, to Anthony and Margaret VanderNoot. Donald was a longtime resident of the area and a member of the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church. He worked as a Pharmacist at the Prescription Shop in Traverse City for 37 years. Donald was a member of the Empire Masonic Lodge No. 597 Scottish Rite, Shrine Temple and the Michigan Alumni Association. For 28 years he was the Treasurer for Glen Arbor Township. Donald spent two years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the South Philippines.He and his wife, Lois owned a resort on Glen Lake, where they rented cottages for 28 years. He was famous for his Sunday night chicken dinners. Donald loved dogs, and his companion, Alex, and would take him to the "DOM." Donald is survived by his daughters, Gail VanderNoot, of Williamsburg, and Janice (Robert) Price, of Empire; and grandchildren, Betsy and Jeffery Price. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Margaret VanderNoot; and Donald's wife, Lois VanderNoot. A memorial service in remembrance of Donald will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m., with visitation from 1:30 p.m.Memorial contributions can be made out to the Empire Masonic Lodge No. 597, Scottish Rite, 10069 Front St., Empire, MI 49630; or to the Saladin Temple, 4200 Saladin Drive SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
