Donald Eugene Wares of Traverse City, Michigan, aged 90, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022 with his family by his side. He was born to John and Hattie Wares on September 26, 1932, in Hazel Park, Michigan.

Don came to Traverse City in 1944, and graduated from Traverse City High School in 1950. He then attended Benzie County Normal. Don obtained his Certificate of Teaching and proceeded to teach in a one-room school house. Don attended the first year of Northwest Michigan College until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1952.

Don married his best-friend Eileen Schultz in 1952. They were happily married for 70 years and enjoyed spending time with their three children. Don and Eileen were passionate and dedicated volunteers of The Salvation Army, donating several years of their lives to servicing the Traverse City Community. Don was an early adopter of the "entrepreneurial spirt" owning several businesses throughout his life in Traverse City.

Don leaves behind his beloved wife Eileen; his three children, Karen (Don) Hendges, Roger (Michelle) Wares, and Scott Wares; his grandchildren, Terry (Kylie), Blair (Blair), Natalie (Dillon), Ellie, Jenna, and his nine great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers; and grandson Matt Hendges.

Don's Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Traverse Bay United Methodist Church, at 1200 Ramsdell Road, Traverse City, MI 49684. Bruce Bequette will be presiding. There will be a one-hour visitation prior to the service and a luncheon to follow.
