Traverse City - Donald Eugene Wolf, 88, of Traverse City passed away peacefully Friday, January 1, 2016 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City with his loving family surrounding his bedside.
Don was born on Friday, June 3, 1927 to the late Bernard and Sarah (Cook) Wolf in Kingsley. He attended St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic School and graduated from there in 1945. Don furthered his education at Michigan State University, earning his associates degree. On January 17, 1948, he married the former Velda M. Saxton in Traverse City. Don served our country as a member of the U. S. Army.
Don's early employment included a variety of jobs, including sales and service , and most notably, a stint with the Air Force inspecting rocket fuel tubes made by Parson's Corp. for the Saturn Moon Rockets.
Having a passion for home building and real estate, Don and his brother Stan formed Royal Homes (later Regal Builders and Timberwolf Construction). This eventually transitioned into full time real estate (Century 21 and Wolf Realty), where Don found his calling. He was past president of the Home Builders Association, member of the Traverse Area Association of Realtors, and served as Blair Township Assessor and on The Planning Commission.
Don was a devoted husband and family man, never missing a special occasion or athletic event. In retirement he enjoyed watching movies and sports (Tigers, Lions, MSU and U of M), and especially working outdoors, trimming tress and doing yard work around his home.
Surviving Don is his wife of 68 years, Velda; children, Curtis (Jeanne) of Traverse City, Marilyn (Bob, II) Weber of Kingsley, D. Scott Wolf of Lake Orion; grandchildren, Angel (Sam Ellis), Lisa Wolf, Nick, Chris (Suzie), Danielle and Hayley Weber (Skylar Gifford), MacKenzie and Cade Wolf and a great granddaughter Eva. Don is also survived by his siblings, Marie Arsenault and Jack (Margie) Wolf, all of Kingsley, Deanna Miller of Traverse City, Brian (Jo) Wolf of Kingsley and a sister in law, Bridie Wolf of Traverse City. Don was preceded in death by his brothers Paul and Stanley (Doris) and brother in law Bernie Miller.
Visitation for Don will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 6 from 6 until 8 p.m. at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7 at St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Church with The Rev. Fr. Raymond Cotter presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Cemetery.
