Donna Evonne Curtis, 76, of Elk Rapids, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Donna was born January 9, 1950, in Warren, Michigan, raised by the late George and Ruby (Schelles) Curtis, in South Redford. The second oldest of her siblings, at 18 years old she moved to New York City to begin a life of her own. She spent more than 30 years working in accounting for Citigroup. 13 years ago, Donna moved back to Michigan, eventually making Elk Rapids her home, where she found great joy in the natural beauty that surrounded her. She loved puttering in her garden, kayaking, visiting the local shops and restaurants, observing the birds and bugs, and simply being outdoors.
Donna will be remembered for her healthy lifestyle, her love of reading, especially books about history, and her creative and artistic spirit. She loved paintings and antique furniture, she also enjoyed rearranging her home, visiting art shops, and appreciating anything creative and beautiful.
Above all else, Donna loved her family, and being a grandmother was one of the greatest joys of her life. She treasured time with her grandchildren, whether taking them to the beach, visiting art shops or simply learning about the things they loved. She had a special routine with her granddaughter every time they spent a day together, where they went to lunch, “people-watched”, and enjoyed time near the lake. Since her grandson was interested in WWE wrestling, Donna took notes so she could learn the wrestlers and storylines, and spent countless hours a week talking to him as they watched together. That was Donna. If something mattered to the people she loved, it mattered to her, too.
Donna will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her love of nature, her curiosity and creativity, and most of all, for simply being a genuinely good natured and caring person.
She is survived by her children, Nicole Battista, and Ken (Jaime Frank) Battista; her grandchildren, Ali, Parker and Spencer; and her siblings, Linda Curtis, Ronald (Donna) Curtis, David (Mary) Curtis and Sharon Major.
A graveside service will take place at 1pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Elk Rapids District Library.
