TRAVERSE CITY – Donna M. Hopkins, 92, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions with her family by her side.
Born June 1, 1923, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of William and Lillian (White) Chandler.
Donna was a life-long resident of Traverse City. She worked at the Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1980. She enjoyed traveling and did as much as time allowed. Her greatest love was her grand-children and she especially loved the times that she was able to spend with them. Her family established a homestead here in the Traverse City area in 1872 and received a certificate as a Pioneer Family.
She married Arlie W. Larkin in November 1941 and together they raised their three daughters.
On April 9, 1994, in Traverse City, she married Darwin L. "Hoppy" Hopkins. They enjoyed traveling, concerts, baseball games and spending time with their family until Hoppy was stricken with Alzheimers. They were grateful for their time together.
She is survived by her three daughters; Linda (Bill) Ransom of Traverse City, Judy (Bruce) Ippel of Jenison, MI, and Kaye (Ed) Myers of Vicksburg, MI, Step-son Gerald (Ellen) Hopkins, 6 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arlie, her husband, Darwin; her parents, William and Lillian (White) Chandler, her step-parents, Frank Gildurski and Lucille Richards.
A memorial service will be held in Donna's honor at The Journey Church, 2825 S Airport Road W. Traverse City, MI, Saturday, June 20 at 5 p.m.. with visitation taking place one hour prior to the service. The Pastor Chris Hinterman will officiate the services.
Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
