Dorcas June Nesbitt, 88, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2014. Dorcas was born in Lansing, on June 8, 1926, to her parents the late William Gaius and Clara Pearl (Deem) Daker.
She attended grade school in Lansing, and high school in Honor, MI., graduating as Salutatorian. She completed County Normal for Teaching Certificate and taught in a one room country grade school. She worked for years in laundry services and retired from housekeeping at Osteopathic Hospital in Traverse City. She continued to work part-time until she was 80 and was an active member of the Central United Methodist Church. She loved plants and flowers of every kind.
Dorcas is survived by her children; daughter, Susan (Duane) Runyon; sons, Allen Sheets, Grant (Loretta) Sheets; sister, Devona Deeren and her five children; seven grandchildren; many great nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Nesbitt II; and a brother-in-law, Oakley Deeren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Wed. Sept. 10, 2014 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the funeral home.
