Dorine "Dee" Jean Mort (Lindgren), 72, passed away with her family by her side on May 13, 2021. Dorine was born on April 13, 1949, the youngest of 7, to Charles and Miriam Lindgren in Houghton, Michigan. She lived a rich childhood in the UP and actually did have to walk to her grade school uphill both ways on a dirt road. Being the youngest of 7 she saw many of her siblings grow up and begin their own families. She met her "Pal" in 1974. Paul Mort and Dorine married after a yearlong courtship in a simple ceremony at the courthouse with their closest friends as witnesses. They broke the news to her parents via postcard as they traveled around Lake Superior on their motorcycle for their honeymoon.

After years of travel, work, fun and building a beautiful home in Midland, Michigan they decided to start a family of their own and gave birth to Amanda Jane Mort in 1982. Dorine was the most amazing mother ever and sacrificed her fulfilling career as a nurse to stay home full time. She devoted all of herself to being a great wife and mother. She was patient with her husband's years of shift work and their limited time together (she actually loved her alone time and independence), but valued the time they were able to spend as a family, sharing her love for adventure and exploring whenever she could. She was involved in every aspect of her daughter's life and was a huge influencer in Amanda's upbringing. Shortly after Amanda's graduation and Paul's retirement, Dorine and Paul moved to their dream home in the woods.

Retirement brought more adventures as Dorine and Paul traveled all over the country on their motorcycle exploring new places and visiting Amanda in Phoenix and Denver. As much as she loved being on the open road with her "Pal", she loved her seclusion in the woods. She loved to entertain and often cooked her famous spaghetti and meatballs to attract visitors, even though her company was more than enough.

Dorine lived a rich life full of love, laughter and an occasional Captain Morgan & Cranberry. She loved to cook and try new recipes. One of her all-time favorites was a venison neck roast brought to her from a nephews hunt. She also loved pasties and liver and onions, but never in her whole entire life did she have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Weird right?
Many would describe Dorine as stoic and private. She kept her feelings close to her chest, but she showed her love in so many other ways. One example of her special love was the 67+ quilts she made for friends and family for their birthdays, weddings, babies and just because; all with her special Dalmatian charm or button. She always got super excited when she found the perfect fabric to match the newlyweds' room or the baby's nursery theme.

Dorine loved a lot of things. She loved to drive fast and brake hard. She loved her family. She loved nature and living in Michigan out in the woods. She loved fast cars, motorcycles and always envied the dogs that stuck their head out the window. She loved Pepsi and was their number one customer for over 50 years (Pepsi should be worried about their stock value after her passing). She loved traveling and exploring and trying new things. She wasn't afraid of anything. Many would call her stubborn, bull headed, tenacious, and smart people who knew her, would not disagree. She loved trillium flowers in the early spring, crosswords, Dalmatians, Gator rides, reading every Steven King book ever written, a good bonfire, the classic Looney Tunes, Waylon Jennings, Brendan Fraser movies, puzzles and men with toned backs.

Dorine disliked little. She didn't like onions or mushrooms. She hated beer, no matter which one Amanda or Paul made her try. She did not camp (her idea of camping was a hot shower and a clean bed) And she defiantly hated that song "Rhythm of the Night" but, that's it! She wasn't one to complain. She was tough. She was a Finlander. She was SISU.
Dorine was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Miriam Lindgren. Her siblings; William Lindgren, Buddy Lindgren, Roy Lindgren, Betty Maki and James Lindgren. Dorine leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Paul Mort and her daughter Amanda Mort, Sister, Jeanette Kujala, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be missed by many. Loved by all she touched.

Dorine's wishes were to have her cremated remains scattered at Misery Bay, near where she grew up. Her family will be following her wishes and scattering her cremated remains August 7th. Her family will be following her other wishes by throwing one heck of a party to remember her and have some fun. Friends and family will meet at the local VFW after the service to laugh, cry and sing along to some Waylon songs.
